Company: Entel (Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones)

Position: Business Development Assistant Manager

ITS Course: Public Transport Policy and Practice; Introduction to Surface and Air Transport (Student Exchange Program 2007)

I currently work as the Business Development Assistant Manager at Entel, the largest telecom company in Chile. My position is part of the strategic area of the company. Hence, I have led investment projects involving strategic growth or efficiency cost for the company in Chile and Peru (creating financial models, working together with investment banks, etc.). Before I started working at Entel, I worked as an advisor and chief of staff to the Vice-Minister of Transport in Chile. I had to coordinate the Vice-Minister’s priority agenda and advise her in strategic definitions.

I was an exchange student at ITS in Leeds and I wanted to take courses that, at the time, did not exist in Chile. For instance, it was the first time I took a course in Public Transport Policy. It was a very good experience. I enjoyed the discussions in classes and seeing how an issue as universal as transport could be approached and analyzed from different perspectives. For sure this experience helped me when I was working at the Ministry of Transport and also in my current job, as I face strategic problems.

I chose ITS and University of Leeds because of its credentials. One of my teachers, Juan de Dios Ortuzar (Phd at Leeds), advised me in this choice.

I would advise potential international students to ITS to take the course that they could not find in their countries. ITS has a wide variety of interesting courses. I would suggest to take advantage of that.
