Institute for Transport Studies (ITS)

Cities

Seventy percent of the global population live in urban areas. Cities are places full of challenge and opportunity especially in the transport sector.

Much of the research carried out by ITS and our Partners relates to the ‘Cities’ theme, with an increasing focus on City-Regions and their rural hinterlands.

Our key aim under this integrating theme is to make links with colleagues in other relevant disciplines and policy sectors, such as housing, urban planning, public health and engineering towards the development and maintenance of more sustainable urban living both locally and globally.

Key collaborative partners driving this agenda include:

  • West Yorkshire Combined Authority
  • Transport for London
  • Leeds City Council
  • School of Civil Engineering
  • Faculty of the Environment
  • Leeds Social Science Institute
