Name: Hendriastomo Fiardi

Company: Ministry of Public Works

Position: Public Officer at Directorate General of Highways

ITS Course: MSc Transport Planning 2005–2007

My current job is as a public officer at Directorate General of Highway, Ministry of Public Works. My current position is as an assistant of PMU SRIP. SRIP itself is a loan project funded by the World Bank and its main purpose is to improve Indonesian national roads especially in Sumatra and Java Island. The loan started in 2007 and will end in December 2011. In general my responsibilities are to assistant in managing all SRIP activities, i.e. to continually monitor progress reports for physical works and environmental activities and to act as a facilitator between the World Bank and Government of Indonesia.

My experience in ITS Leeds, brought me wider understanding of transportation related issues. For example safety, environment, engineering, financing and policy which all have to be taken into equal consideration before we made decisions. In my job as PMU, before we accept or reject any proposals for technical justification, procurement process or price adjustment, we must take into careful consideration all of the aspects above.

"I chose my ITS course and Leeds University because I had received information about Leeds and ITS from one of the alumni, but the most important thing for me was that ITS qualified with my transport interests, (ITS is one of the best), and the living costs in Leeds is much more affordable than London."

My advice to students interested in this course is that studying at ITS Leeds, gives you many experiences (using new software, undertaking transport surveys, traffic counting, using speed guns and a field trip to other cities and countries).

"So, please enjoy your time at ITS, enjoy the presentations, make a lot of friends, enjoy the stress, enjoy the coursework, read as many books as you can, and of course enjoy your time at Leeds."
